What We Do

When your network infrastructure is end-of-life, a refresh is underway, or a facility is closing, you need more than just someone to haul things out. You need a partner who understands the technology, follows proper disposal protocols, and gives you the documentation to prove it.

Bailey8 handles the full process — from disconnecting and labeling equipment to certified data sanitization, physical removal, and coordinating responsible recycling. We treat your decommission with the same professionalism as your install.

What a Decommission Actually Gets You

Dead equipment isn't neutral. It takes up rack space, clutters cable runs, consumes power, and slows down every tech that has to work around it. Cleaning it out has measurable, real-world value — for your facility, your team, and your budget.

Recovered Floor & Rack Space

Legacy gear doesn't disappear on its own — it stacks up in closets, fills MDF/IDF cabinets, and blocks rack units your next refresh needs. Clearing it out gives you room to grow, clean, and plan without working around equipment that's been end-of-life for three years.

  • Open rack space for new switches, firewalls, and access points
  • Reclaim server room square footage for future infrastructure
  • Reduce clutter that makes emergency troubleshooting slower and riskier
[CB]

Cleaner Cable Plant = Faster Techs

Dead cable runs are the number one hidden tax on technician time. Every hour a tech spends tracing a cable that connects to nothing is an hour billed to you. We pull what's not needed — patch panels, abandoned trunk runs, orphaned drops — so your infrastructure reflects what's actually live.

  • Reduce time-to-resolve on outages and moves/adds/changes
  • Cut onboarding time for new techs who need to learn your environment
  • Eliminate the "mystery cable" problem that delays every job in the space
[PW]

Lower Power & Cooling Costs

Equipment that's powered on but doing nothing is pure overhead. An idle server can draw 100–300W continuously — that's $87–$262 per year per unit just in electricity, before you factor in the extra cooling load it adds to the room it's sitting in.

  • Idle 1U servers: ~100–300W each — eliminate and save immediately
  • Fewer heat-generating devices means lower HVAC burden
  • UPS capacity freed up for equipment that actually needs it
[DC]

Clearer Documentation & Audit Readiness

When we decommission, we inventory what we remove. That process naturally forces a reconciliation of what's actually in your environment versus what your diagrams say. You walk away with an accurate picture of your infrastructure — which has value every time you plan a refresh, a move, or a compliance audit.

  • Itemized removal report you can use to update your asset inventory
  • Accurate port counts and rack diagrams post-cleanup
  • Simpler compliance audits when your environment matches your records
[NW]

Improved Network Performance

Legacy devices on an active network — old switches, rogue APs, misconfigured endpoints — can generate broadcast storms, introduce latency, and create security gaps. Removing them isn't just cleanup; it's network hygiene that your team will notice.

  • Eliminate legacy devices generating unnecessary broadcast traffic
  • Remove unsupported endpoints that can't receive security patches
  • Reduce attack surface from forgotten, unmanaged devices
[TM]

Your Team Gets Their Time Back

Decommissions are often deferred because nobody wants to take on the weekend project of tracing, labeling, disconnecting, hauling, and disposing of a full closet's worth of equipment. We own that entire process — so your internal team doesn't have to pull weekend shifts or bill overtime to get it done.

  • No internal resource drain — we handle the entire removal process
  • Scheduled to minimize disruption to your operations
  • Done right the first time, with documentation to prove it

Your Old Gear Trains the Next Generation

When we pull your decommissioned equipment, it doesn't just go to a recycler. Usable hardware — switches, routers, access points, servers, structured cabling components — gets a second life as hands-on training tools.

Bailey8 runs monthly skills classes for people who are underemployed or looking to break into the technology field. No prerequisites, no textbooks — just real equipment, real scenarios, and real skills that translate directly to jobs in IT infrastructure, low voltage contracting, and network administration.

We're not a nonprofit, and this isn't a tax-deductible donation — but when you call Bailey8, your old infrastructure goes toward building the workforce that will one day service networks like yours.

> Classes held monthly — hands-on, practical, real-world focused
> Students work on actual enterprise-grade equipment, not simulations
> Curriculum covers cabling, termination, switching, basic network config
> Targeted at people transitioning careers or entering the trades

Data Destruction & Compliance

Every storage device we remove is treated as a liability until it's been properly sanitized. We offer two methods depending on your needs:

Software Wipe

NIST 800-88 compliant overwrite

  • Multiple-pass data overwrite
  • Verification log generated per device
  • Suitable for drives that will be reused or resold
  • Certificate of data sanitization provided

Physical Destruction

Degauss & shred / drill

  • Physical media destroyed beyond recovery
  • Ideal for HIPAA, PCI-DSS, DOD requirements
  • Witnessed destruction available
  • Destruction certificate with serial numbers

All destruction records are retained for a minimum of 3 years in compliance with Missouri DNR and federal e-waste documentation requirements.

What We're Working On — And What You Should Know

We believe in transparency. Here's an honest look at the licensing and compliance landscape for IT equipment removal and e-waste services in Missouri — and where Bailey8 stands.

IN PROGRESS

MO DNR Electronics Recycler Registration

Missouri's Department of Natural Resources requires businesses that handle, collect, or process e-waste to register under a tiered system (L1–L4). Bailey8 is actively pursuing this registration as we build out our decommission service offering.

MO DNR Registration Info →
PLANNED

R2 Certification (Responsible Recycling)

The R2 standard is the industry benchmark for responsible electronics recycling. It covers worker health and safety, environmental compliance, and data destruction practices. R2-certified facilities are required for many manufacturer take-back programs and enterprise compliance mandates.

Learn about R2 →
ACTIVE

Missouri Business Registration

Bailey8 is a registered business entity with the Missouri Secretary of State with a valid Federal EIN and local business license. We carry general liability insurance for all work performed at client sites.

ACTIVE

Data Destruction Documentation

We maintain certified destruction records with a minimum 3-year retention period as required under Missouri's Electronics Scrap Management Rule (10 CSR 25-19.010) and aligned with NIST 800-88 guidelines.

MO Electronics Scrap Rule →
PARTNER-BASED

Solid Waste Handling & Transport

Missouri requires a Solid Waste Permit for businesses that process or store e-waste on-site. Until Bailey8 has this permit, we work with licensed, permitted recycling partners to ensure all e-waste collected from your site is handled by a fully compliant facility — and you receive their manifest as proof.

MO Solid Waste Permits →
NOTE

Hazardous Waste Compliance

Certain IT equipment (older CRT monitors, batteries, some circuit boards) may be classified as hazardous waste under Missouri law. We identify these items during intake and route them exclusively to licensed hazardous waste handlers. We do not store hazardous materials beyond 90 days without proper permitting.

MO Hazardous Waste Info →

> This information is provided for general awareness. Licensing requirements can change — contact the Missouri DNR Waste Management Program at 573-751-5401 or visit dnr.mo.gov for the most current requirements. Bailey8 is committed to being fully compliant as this service grows.
